Drogba to stay and make amends
Prolific striker Didier Drogba has insisted that despite the attractive lure of Italy, he is out to write some wrongs with Chelsea.
The Ivory Coast international has recently been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, rumours that have gathered pace ever since former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho took control at Serie A giants Inter Milan.
However, despite the gossip columns going in to overdrive during January's transfer window with a whole of clubs including Inter supposedly chasing Drogba's services, the 30-year-old has admitted that a move away from west London was never really on the cards.
"There hasn't been anything. The club told me they wanted me to stay," Drogba told French magazine Sport.
"As a consequence, I am under contract until 2010 and don't want to fight against that.
"I always said I was interested in Italian football, but right now I'm under contract with Chelsea.
"I am not staying at Chelsea because I have to, but I really want to take up new challenges.
Having enjoyed success galore since joining Chelsea from Marseille in 2004, Drogba also revealed that last season's lack of silverware at The Bridge would not have been an ideal leaving gift. It's something that the lanky front man is keen to rectify this campaign.
"That's the first time that I didn't win anything with Chelsea (last season). I couldn't leave this way.
"The fact we lost the Champions League final makes me want to try and win it with the lads. We were inches from winning it last May.
"We learnt a lot from last season and we want to win the English title. Winning the double would be beautiful."
