BPL Sunday Team News

espnstar.com brings you all the latest team news for Sunday's six exciting matches in the Barclays Premier League.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Didier Drogba's knee injury rules him out of Chelsea's clash against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

The striker joins Deco (thigh), Ricardo Carvalho (knee) and Michael Essien (knee) on the sidelines.

Ashley Cole (back), Joe Cole (hip), Alex (buttock) and John Terry (back) all are hopeful of being fit but may require late checks.

Aston Villa strikers John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor have both been declared fit for the clash.

Carew and Agbonlahor were left out of the UEFA Cup tie with Litex Lovech in midweek as a precautionary measure as they were suffering with slight groin and thigh problems respectively.

O'Neill is expected to revert to the same line-up which has featured in the previous six league games this season.

In addition to Carew and Agbonlahor, that will also mean recalls for skipper Martin Laursen, fellow defender Curtis Davies and the midfield duo of Gareth Barry and Nigel Reo-Coker.

Everton vs Newcastle United

(Watch this match LIVE on ESPN from 2300 HKT)

Newcastle interim manager Joe Kinnear could be handed a triple boost as he prepares for the trip to Everton.

Kinnear, who will complete his own two-game touchline ban at Goodison Park, will welcome back midfielder Danny Guthrie from suspension, while full-backs Jose Enrique (hamstring) and Habib Beye (Achilles) have a chance of making the squad.

Jonas Gutierrez (fractured collarbone) has returned from Argentina and could be back in business for Manchester City's visit to St James' Park on October 20, but Mark Viduka (Achilles) is out for another six weeks and Alan Smith (stress fracture) three months. In addition, Ignacio Gonzalez (hamstring) and the suspended Joey Barton are still missing.

Everton's Tim Cahill will miss out and there are also slight doubts over Phil Neville and Louis Saha.

Cahill will begin a three-match ban following his sending off in the Merseyside derby last week while Neville and Saha both picked up knocks in the UEFA Cup defeat at Standard Liege.

Tony Hibbert suffered severe cramp in the same match but is expected to be fit.

Teams:

Everton (from): Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines, Neville, Yobo, Osman, Arteta, Yakubu, Saha, Anichebe, Pienaar, Nash, Castillo, Nuno Valente, Rodwell.

Manchester City vs Liverpool

(Watch this match LIVE on STAR Sports from 2200 HKT)

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will monitor Richard Dunne's fitness ahead of the ue match against Liverpool.

Republic of Ireland central defender Dunne was forced to sit out the UEFA Cup victory over AC Omonia last night because of a hamstring problem.

Martin Petrov has recovered from a similar problem and is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after coming off the bench.

Javier Mascherano is expected to return to Liverpool's starting line-up having been rested for the midweek Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven.

Manager Rafael Benitez left Mascherano on the bench against the Dutch side in preparation for the trip to Eastlands.

Ryan Babel picked up a minor leg injury in the match while Fernando Torres suffered a bruised calf - but both are expected to be available for the trip to face Mark Hughes' outfit.

Liverpool bid to extend a run of only one defeat - against Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final in April - in their last 22 matches, stretching back to March.

Teams:

Man City (from): Hart, Zabaleta, Richards, Dunne, Ben Haim, Garrido, Ball, Elano, Kompany, Ireland, Hamann, Fernandes, Petrov, Wright-Phillips, Robinho, Jo, Schmeichel, Evans, Sturridge, Glauber, Etuhu.

Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Skrtel, Aurelio, Dossena, Babel, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Benayoun, Riera, Torres, Kuyt, Keane, Lucas, Cavalieri.

Portsmouth vs Stoke City

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is without the suspended Lassana Diarra for his side's Premier League clash with Stoke after the midfielder was sent off against Tottenham last weekend.

Redknapp also has injury concerns over fellow midfielders Papa Bouba Diop (hamstring) and John Utaka (knee) following Pompey's UEFA Cup victory over Vitoria Guimaraes.

Sean Davis should keep his place following his return from injury while new signings Younes Kaboul, Arnold Mvuemba and Glen Little are pressing their claims for inclusion.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis will give his long-throw specialist Rory Delap every chance to declare himself fit.

Delap missed last week's defeat by Chelsea because of a hamstring strain, but he did resume training today and Pulis rates his chances at "50/50".

Liam Lawrence is definitely out with an ankle injury after tripping over his pet labrador on the stairs of his home, but the injury is not as serious as initially feared. Michael Tonge is in line to make his full debut as Lawrence's replacement.

Ricardo Fuller should shake off a stomach virus to face one of his former clubs, while Pulis must decide between Leon Cort and Ibrahima Sonko at the heart of Stoke's defence.

Teams:

Portsmouth (from): James Johnson, Kaboul, Distin, Belhadj, Campbell, Hreidarsson, Hreidarsson, Davis, Little, Mvuemba, Hughes, A Traore, Defoe, Crouch, Nugent, Kanu, D Traore, Utaka, Diop, Thomas, Ashdown.

Stoke (from): Sorensen, Griffin, Sonko, Cort, Abdoulaye Faye, Higginbotham, Tonge, Diao, Olofinjana, Delap, Kitson, Fuller, Sidibe, Cresswell, Simonsen, Amdy Faye, Whelan, Shawcross, Soares.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City

Tottenham will have Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka available for the clash against Hull at White Hart Lane.

Alan Hutton (foot) is out, while skipper Ledley King could be rested after playing against Wisla Krakow in the UEFA Cup this week.

Gareth Bale and Luka Modric returned to action against Wisla.

Hull striker Marlon King is doubtful for the clash with a back problem.

King has been unable to train all week but manager Phil Brown is hoping he can prove his fitness in a session on Saturday.

Former Spurs defender Anthony Gardner is in contention after overcoming a thigh injury but Brown insists he will not rush him back if not 100%.

Another Spurs old boy, Nick Barmby, has recovered from a calf strain but new signing Stelios Giannakopoulos (thigh) is ruled out.

Teams

Tottenham (from): Gomes, Bale, Zokora, Bentley, Huddlestone, Lennon, Jenas, Bent, Gilberto, Modric, Gunter, Giovani, Dawson, O'Hara, King, Assou-Ekotto, Woodgate, Cesar, Campbell, Pavlyuchenko, Corluka.

West Ham look set to retain the team which defeated Fulham for the visit of Bolton.

Defenders James Tomkins and James Collins have been out with knee injuries but are close to full fitness and are expected to return next weekend.

Striker Dean Ashton is sidelined after undergoing ankle surgery with no date set for his comeback.

Bolton manager Gary Megson has a full-strength squad available.

Matthew Taylor is fully fit after recovering from a broken toe and is pushing for a starting berth on the left side of midfield.

He could replace Ricardo Gardner, with the Jamaican possibly dropping back to left-back at the expense of Jlloyd Samuel.
