Liverpool goalscoring machine Fernando Torres has admitted that his dream is to go on and win the 2008 Ballon d'Or.

Torres has been in exceptional form since making the move from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool and is one of the main contenders for the award which will be presented in December.

He told L'Equipe: "When I have watched the Ballon d'Or presentation on television I saw the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kaka.

"I told myself that trophy was for players from another galaxy. Now I am among the candidates, and I cannot believe it.

"Winning the award would be like climbing to the top of Everest and touching the sky."

Netting a total of 33 goals in all competitions during his debut season last year, he then went on to claim the Euro 2008 title with Spain.

His main competition for the prize is Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi.

Torres has yet to hit top gear this season but his strike partnership with Robbie Keane looks to be improving week by week.
