City target Kaka as key signing
Manchester City’s new owners have set their sights on Brazilian star Kaka as their US$85million signing in the summer.
According to The Daily Mail, the Abu Dhabi United Group, who are the new owners of Manchester City, has reportedly instructed Mark Hughes to sign one superstar per season. And the City boss has shifted the radar onto AC Milan playmaker Kaka, with Hughes a keen admirer of his abilities. The former Blackburn and Wales manager believes the Brazilian superstar has the physical capabilities to endure the rigours of the Premier League. City are ready to table a bid of US$85million to get their man in the summer.
Apart from Kaka, Hughes is keen on Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero. He feels the Argentina international is a “world-class forward”, and will thrive at City, should Hughes beat off competition from Inter Milan.
Should Hughes fail to sign either Kaka or Aguero, he is likely to move for Valencia striker David Villa. Villa however, wants to remain in Spain.
But the January transfer window should see Hughes reinforce his side with a left-back. It is believed he will turn to Blackburn for Stephen Warnock, whom Hughes signed for Rovers from Liverpool.
Also high on his shopping list are Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz and Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings. Other names mentioned in the Eastlands include Barcelona forward Thierry Henry and the Sampdoria playmaker Antonio Cassano.
The talk of new arrivals has unsettled City defender Javier Garrido.
“All clubs change over time, but this year Manchester City have undergone a tremendous change with the new owners and the kind of signings that they will be able to attract,” he told The Daily Mail.
“Of course, there could very well be more changes because you just don't know who is going to sign for City now.
“Players hear the names of others who may be coming in and, of course, you wonder about how it's going to affect you. But you just have to focus on taking your chances and playing well when you get into the side.”
