Dubai still targetting Liverpool

Dubai still targetting Liverpool

Liverpool could still be taken over by Dubai's ruling family despite the Maktoum family's reported interest in Charlton Athletic.

The Championship outfit announced last week that they had received an offer from Zabeel Investments.

The involvement in the negotiations of Sheikh Hamdan Al-Maktoum, son of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed, had therefore been seen as a sign that Liverpool were no longer a target for the mega-rich Dubai family.

Liverpool however remain on the Dubai radar and the Maktoums are steadfastly intent on stepping in whenever Tom Hicks and George Gillett - Liverpool's current owners - are ready to sell.

The American duo have already rejected one offer earlier this year, but are under intense pressure to fund the debt with which they bought Liverpool as well as find the finances needed to build a new stadium.

"Nothing has changed," said a source close to the Maktoums.

"The family still intend to takeover Liverpool and the possible purchase of Charlton certainly has no bearing on it."
