Carragher: We’re good enough
Jamie Carragher has laughed off the hype surrounding Liverpool’s impressive start to the campaign.
Liverpool showcased a vintage performance last weekend, coming from behind to beat Manchester City 3-2. With the victory, the Reds currently lie in second place on 17 points, just behind leaders Chelsea, who have a better goal difference. This season has been Liverpool’s best-ever start to a Premier League season, and it has even got the critics standing on their feet. Pundits and fans believe this could be the campaign in which the Reds will seriously challenge for the title.
However, Carragher feels the supporters and observers need not to be surprised over Liverpool’s impressive start so far.
"People should stop saying we've made a great start, though,” Carragher said on the club’s official website.
“I'm thinking, 'We've only played seven games and we're Liverpool. Shouldn't we be up there? Am I missing something?' We're not Hull.
“If we're still up there in March we can talk about it, until then we'll focus on doing our best in every game. Actions speak louder than words."
Carragher also praised the management qualities of his manager Rafa Benitez, saying that the Spaniard is extremely detailed when it comes to tactics and formations. The former England international therefore, is not surprised over Benitez’s tinkering ways.
"Rafa has taken things to another level," he added.
"He goes into every detail, tiny little things like body positions, how to react when the opposition use different formations.
"He can change systems five times in a game. In Robbie Keane's first match he ended up on the left wing because Rafa noticed something about Lazio which made him want three in the middle – and that was just a friendly."
