Poyet bites back at Tottenham

Gus Poyet has hit back at his former Tottenham flops, claiming they should be embarrassed by their displays.

Manager Juande Ramos and assistant boss Poyet were sacked last month after a wretched start to the campaign, which left them bottom of the Premier League.

Poyet is disappointed that some Spurs players have spoken out about Ramos since he was replaced by Harry Redknapp as he feels they let he and Ramos down, and that they have a limited knowledge of the game.

Chairman Daniel Levy has put Spurs' poor form down to the protracted £31million sale of star striker Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United on transfer-deadline day, but Poyet insists the current squad only have themselves to blame.

"It's very sad to see the players talking about Juande," he told the News of the World.

"They should be embarrassed as they had the chance to talk on the pitch and didn't do that.

"Juande trusted the players and expected that, as they're playing in the Premier League, they would be very professional and know everything about football.

"But, unfortunately, they don't. There are a few who do but I would say that half the team don't know much about football.

"From the middle of May everyone knew Berbatov was leaving. Levy has decided to blame Berbatov - but I won't."
