Capello wants Ferguson's job
Fabio Capello revealed he would consider quitting England for Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson retires in 2010.
Capello, in his newly-released biography, Fabio Capello: The Man, The Dream, The Inside Story, revealed he is keen to take over the Old Trafford hotseat from Ferguson. The Scot plans to retire after the 2010 World Cup finals and wants to quit management at 70 - in December 2011.
Sources close to the United hierarchy believes Capello is the perfect man for the managerial post - having won nine League titles in Italy and Spain together with a European Cup triumph.
The biography also shed light on Capello being offered the United job in 2001, when Ferguson prematurely announcing his retirement from management in 2001.
Capello admitted he had a meeting then United chairman, Martin Edwards, while he was in charge of Serie A side Roma. Edwards promised the Italian he will take over the reins at United for the 2002-3 campaign.
Things however, took a sudden twist as United entered into fresh negotiations on a new contract with Ferguson in February 2002. Though disappointed with the development then, Capello has always maintained his interest in becoming United manager.
Capello's contract with England expires in 2012 - and the Football Association can sack him without paying any compensation should England fail to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.
