Harry: Spurs 'miles' from Defoe deal
Harry Redknapp's hopes of signing Jermain Defoe have been dented after a meeting between Daniel Levy and Peter Storrie.
Spurs chairman Levy and Pompey chief executive Storrie met in attempt to thrash out a deal for the England striker to return to White Hart Lane but Redknapp described them as being "miles apart" in their valuations.
Redknapp, who signed Defoe for Pompey last January, feels his former club would want more than £20million for 26-year-old.
"The two clubs are miles apart in their valuation of the player so I think we'll have to move on," he said.
The need for attacking reinforcements was highlighted by Bent's groin strain during the 3-1 FA Cup third-round win over Wigan at White Hart Lane.
"He's struggling a bit," Redknapp said. "I don't know for sure but he'll be out for a little while."
Redknapp feels he will need up to four players during this month's transfer window and he has been told by Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate that Stewart Downing is not for sale.
His squad is already stretched and he could not use midfielder Hossam Ghaly as the crowd were jeering the Egypt international in his return to the first-team squad after throwing his shirt on the ground when he was substituted under Martin Jol in 2007.
"Everyone started booing and I heard people shouting abuse," Redknapp said. "I didn't want to change the atmosphere of the game with eight or nine minutes left.
"Obviously there is a problem with the boy playing. It's got to be very difficult for him in the future. I spoke to him afterwards about it."
Roman Pavlyuchenko scored twice against Wigan, either side of a Luka Modric diving header.
Modric's goal came while Maynor Figueroa was down injured - but Latics boss Steve Bruce had no complaints.
"It was unfortunate but I'm not blaming the Spurs players," Bruce said. "It's the rule that gets farcical sometimes.
"The big things went their way and it was always difficult with six or seven players out."
Bruce is desperate to keep his players at the club during the window.
"I've had no contact with other clubs and I hope that continues," he said.
He also has no doubts over keeping on-loan striker Amr Zaki at the club.
"He's our until June, there are no get-out clauses," he added.
