Unhappy Defoe sickened by threats

Want away Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe has revealed that he has received threats from angry Pompey fans.

Following his bust-up with manager Tony Adams, Defoe is set to leave Fratton Park in this month's transfer window. So far, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Juventus are reportedly interested in signing the striker.

But his desire to leave the club has left some fans feeling unhappy over his imminent departure. That has led  to phone threats and Defoe shot back at these Pompey fans.

The striker told The Guardian: "Some of the calls have made me sick to my stomach."

The 26-year-old England striker added that he has received threats similar to those made to Harry Redknapp when the current Spurs boss left Portsmouth to join Southampton in November 2004.

"I have absolutely no idea how they got hold of my number but some of the calls have made me sick to my stomach," Defoe told the Sunday Mirror. "I have reported it to officials at the club, but cannot accept that it is coming from people with a balanced state of mind.

"It has infuriated and upset my family and left me wondering what on earth possesses people to do things like that."
