Wigan vs Tottenham Preview

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has a fully-fit squad to choose from ahead of Sunday's visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland missed the previous two matches with a groin injury but has recovered while strikers Emile Heskey and Amr Zaki and right-back Mario Melchiot have all trained this week.

Midfielder Ryan Taylor (hamstring) and defender Paul Scharner (Achilles) should feature and Lee Cattermole returns from suspension.

Wigan manager Steve Bruce aims to get revenge on Tottenhamafter Harry Redknapp's side knocked his men out of the FA Cup just over a week ago.

The 3-1 defeat in London was slightly misleading as the Latics had a number of first-choice players out through injury and suspension.

Bruce, with all his players available again, has promised a much-improved performance and hopes their impressive recent home record will negate the effect of Jermain Defoe's return to Spurs.

The England striker, who completed his move from Portsmouth less than 12 months after leaving White Hart Lane, has a habit of scoring on debut.

And although Sunday is not technically a debut, Bruce is well aware of the threat.

"He is a very good signing. I knew as soon as I saw him sign he would make his debut against us," said the manager, whose side have won their last four matches at the JJB Stadium to rise to seventh in the Barclays Premier League.

"We will do our utmost to ensure he doesn't score.

"In the FA Cup last week we were badly hammered. I am convinced we will be a different proposition on our own patch.

"We have everyone fit and that can only be a boost to everyone.

"We haven't beaten Spurs in the Premier League. Let's hope it is our turn."

Defoe goes straight into the Tottenham squad after completing his move from Portsmouth.

Darren Bent (groin), Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and David Bentley (illness) have been training, Jermaine Jenas is back from suspension but Benoit Assou-Ekotto is still banned, joining Alan Hutton (knee) on the sidelines.

Skipper Ledley King (knee) has been rested this week and is in the frame to play.

Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora is determined to return from a week of cup action by getting back on track in the Barclays Premier League.

Zokora admits Spurs have not matched the standards set in the early days of Harry Redknapp's reign as manager but even so, the 28-year-old cannot understand how low they are in the table.

Despite the relatively healthy return of 18 points from 12 games since Redknapp took over from Juande Ramos, Spurs started the weekend in 16th place and two points above bottom-placed West Brom.

"I look at the players we have here and I don't know why we are 16th in the table," Zokora said. "I know the last few months of the season were difficult, we started badly.

"Harry came in and lifted the confidence and we played very well but in the last three games our performances have not been as we would want, we are better than that.

"It's frustrating because we wanted to take points for the players, the fans and for Harry."

Spurs have one foot in the Carling Cup final after establishing a 4-1 lead over Burnley and last week they defeated Wigan in the FA Cup.

It has been a different story in the league, where they have taken two points from their last four games. In Spurs' favour is a tight league where a string of wins can catapult teams up the table.

"When you look at the table, after the top six, seventh all the way down to 20th is very close," Zokora added. "We now have 18 league games left and every one is important."
