Rooney: Up to us now!

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is thrilled at the thought of taking over Liverpool at the top of the table.

The England striker who had a superb outing against title rivals Chelsea yesterday and even added a goal to put United two up in the second-half.

Rooney said: "After watching Liverpool's game on Saturday this was exactly what we needed.

"Now we could be top of the league by Saturday night.

"It is up to us now. We have got to win those two games before Liverpool play Everton on Monday. By Saturday night we want to look at that table and see ourselves top."

Rooney added: "It was very important to get that goal just on half-time because I think Chelsea had enjoyed more possession than us before that. Walking in at half-time their heads seemed to go down.

"We knew if we attacked them in the second half they wouldn't live with us. In the second half they put two up front and the game opened up. We thoroughly deserved to win."

United are now a point behind Chelsea and trail Liverpool by five points with two games in hand.

The Red Devils will be in action on Wednesday against Wigan at home before taking on Bolton at the Reebok stadium on Saturday.

If they win both games, they will move into first place ahead of Rafa Benitez's Liverpool.
