Waddle: Middlesbrough in freefall
Chris Waddle feels that Gareth Southgate's inexperienced youngsters are the cause of Middlesbrough's downfall.
Southgate's charges could only manage a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and are stuck in 19th position.
Waddle said: "Sadly, they are in freefall and it is very difficult to pull out of that - particularly when you have got as many young and inexperienced players in your side as Gareth Southgate has.
The former wing wizard feels that Southgate's style of play is good but the lack of leaders could become the sole reason if they do get relegated.
"I like the way Gareth gets his team to play, and I think there is a good future ahead at the Riverside because they have a great academy there.
"But, right now, he needs old heads and leaders on the pitch and, everywhere I look through Gareth's team, I just don't see enough of them." added Waddle.
Southgate's men will take on Manchester City this coming weekend.
