FA receive Lampard appeal

The Football Association have received a claim for wrongful dismissal from Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

The England international was sent off for a challenge on Liverpool's Xabi Alonso in the second half of the Blues' 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday.

The pair collided when Lampard slid in to take the ball ahead of the Spaniard, causing the Liverpool man to kick the Chelsea player's studs.

Referee Mike Riley was two yards away and immediately brandished the red card believing that the 30-year-old's studs were dangerously high.

The former West Ham midfielder is set to miss league games against Hull and Aston Villa and the FA Cup fifth-round clash with Watford.

The FA will review the decision on Tuesday.
