Gazza reveals United secret
Paul Gascoigne claims he would have been one of Sir Alex Ferguson's legends had he signed for Manchester United.
The troubled former England midfielder says one of his greatest regrets was that he rejected United's offer and snubbed Ferguson's bid to bring him to Old Trafford.
It is also widely known in football that Ferguson's biggest disappointment as manager was to ‘not getting Gazza'.
Gascoigne was on the verge of becoming a United player but chose to sign up for Tottenham from Newcastle.
Speaking to SkySports, Gazza said: ‘Maybe if I had stayed at Man U, I might have been still there,
‘Look at young Rooney, the Neville brothers and Becks, the way he (Ferguson) just brought them on. I got invited to the academy and it is a magnificent place and you can see the way he treats his players, he treats them with respect but he also makes men out of boys.
‘It took me six years to get back talking to Sir Alex. I called him from Lazio and asked him would he sign us.
'He was with Eric Cantona and he said he would see what Eric Cantona was going to do, but I think everyone knows if you do something to Sir Alex Ferguson the way I did, you don't get a second chance."
Gazza went on to become a Spurs legend but his colourful lifestyle destroyed his career bit by bit.
The former England star is in a battle against alcoholism at the moment.
