Carlo Ancelotti: A Chelsea fan's view

Chelsea fan KarmaCW tells espnstar.com that Carlo Ancelotti is only keeping the managerial seat warm for Gus Hiddink.

By Eugene YS Han

As expected, Ancelotti has been appointed the new manager at Chelsea to replace the out-going interim manager Guus Hiddink.

espnstar.com's Eugene YS Han asks KarmaCW how he feels about the new man in charge of the Blues:

espnstar.com: What will Calo Ancelotti bring to Chelsea?

KCW: It's too early to comment, but as a hopeful Chelsea fan, I think he is a good manager and would fetch the much needed Champions League trophy for us. He is experienced in European competition but I am very doubtful how he would manage the domestic competitions. He just got one Serie A trophy in eight years, this is little disturbing since the Premier League is undoubtedly more competitive than Serie A. But if he communicates properly with the staff, like Ray Wilkins and John Terry, then maybe he can learn a trick or two from them.

And it's also a relief that Guus Hiddink will be stay behind at Chelsea as a technical adviser. So I think Carlo will make best use of Hiddink's genius to benefit himself. Finally, as a true Chelsea fan, I would sincerely wish him good luck because he would need it in plenitude, after all he had got big shoes to fill!

espnstar.com: Is he the right man for this job?

KCW: No, because Guus is the number one choice for Chelsea but he is a man of his word and had to return to manage Russia. And given the choice, I would still second him to Jose Mourinho and Gianfranco Zola but in the present situation where the above two are fully committed to their present clubs, I think Carlo is the right man for the job; so my answer is a mixed one.

espnstar.com: So who are your top choices then?

KCW: My rankings of the managers for Chelsea, provided all are free, would be: Jose, Zola and Rijgaard, never to forget the Golden Guus! He is the fifth!

espnstar.com: But can Ancelotti attract star players like Kaka and David Villa to the club?

KCW: I think he can but I would rather be happy without these highly rated players; they are very expensive too! We have Didier and Nico, and we can start playing Di Santo regularly. So, although I think Carlo can attract star players to Chelsea, I don't take this possibility as a plus point for us.

espnstar.com: How do you think Chelsea will play next season?

KCW: Since we are not going to have an influx of players so I don't see much difference in the way Chelsea will be playing next year. Moreover the style of play incorporated by Hiddink had worked perfectly for us, so I expect a similar play next year too.

espnstar.com: So do you think he is keeping the seat warm for Guus?

KCW: Absolutely spot on! Every true Chelsea fan will think he is doing this. Guus had talked about his "second and third thoughts" and also he had clearly stated that he would love to return to Chelsea. So, it is going to be an interim measure for Chelsea to keep Carlo until Guus returns.
