Blues fans have Ancelotti doubts
Chelsea fans have been sending in their concerns about new boss Carlos Ancelotti to streettalk@espnstar.com.
Francis Chin from Singapore has this to say: -
"You don't come any bigger than Carlo Ancelotti. A club like Chelsea with all the big ego players, notably their captain (if what Makelele claims is true in his book) John Terry, need someone like him to steer the club to win trophies. But I have my doubts.
Carlo will not be as bad as Scolari as he comes with sufficient club experiences and knows what it takes to succeed at club level. Also, being in Europe for the past eight seasons with Milan I presume he has been following English football and knows what it takes to succeed there.
I have my doubts simply because Carlo does not speak English whether fluently or otherwise. I believe this is one of Scolari's downfall, not being able to communicate effectively in English. If all or the majority of the players are of one nationality, it will make the communication easier. But Chelsea is a team of many nationalities and although English is the common language , how each nationality communicate with one another can leave a lot to be desired.
This ineffective communication can lead to his downfall no matter how good his training or team tactic is going to be as players morale or self-esteem will be hurt when they do not understand clearly the coach/manager's instructions.
Using Scolari's experience as an example, I suggest to Carlo should bond first with the key, big ego players like Terry, Drogba and the silent killer Cech. Then these players will influence the rest and the rest would work out nicely."
Ganesh Mukundan has this to say: -
"I'm sure Carlo Ancelotti won't be a success. Have we guys forgotten how much pressure Roman Abramovich puts on the team's manager? Big Phil was sacked just after a few months of his contract. He could not deliver at chelsea. The reason is simple. He needed time to understand the english style of football and more importantly was he given that time ?
Well, the answer is no. So can the Italian who has spent eight years in his homeland coaching Milan come up with something special as soon as he enters the Bridge? You need time as a manager which is not a luxury at Chelsea. But, if Roman changes his attitude and gives his manager more time then the manager can do something. But that manager needs to be a Harry Redknapp or David Moyes.
Ancelotti has won the Scudetto only once which is really disappointing. Look at that Milan squad. Full of superstars. You've got the likes of Kaka, Gattuso, Pirlo and many others. He has underachieved at Milan but he was given the time (eight years). Therefore I don't think he can create wonders at Chelsea. But I've my fingers crossed because I'm a great chelsea fan. I want stablity at the club. Let's see whether Carlo makes it big or not. But if you ask me he's not the one Chelsea were looking for."
Nishant Shah has similar doubts: -
"It's proven that Carlo Ancelotti is one of the best coaches. He has won everything with Milan but I was having doubts about him coming at Chelsea. He doesn't know proper English. Just like Scolari who was also a world-class manager. But his problem was the language barrier.
If the team is not performing well, a coach will need to inspire the players. Scolari wasn't able to communicate well with the players.
Michael Ballack even went on to say that he didn't understood a word of Scolari. So all the Chelsea fans can only hope that Ancelotti doesn't end up like him."
