Spurs face points deduction
The FA is to investigate Jermaine Defoe's transfer to Tottenham after an alleged involvement of an unlicensed agent.
Tottenham as well as Portsmouth could face legal charges regarding the proceedings leading to Defoe's move in January 2008.
The Daily Mirror reported that Defoe's former agent, Sky Andrew, had stated he was 'unjustly removed from the deal' and has accused Spurs of using an unlicensed agent.
The club could be punished by having points deducted in the league. Just last season, League Two side Luton Town were docked ten points for the involvement of an unlicensed agent.
According to the British paper, a High Court judge has given Defoe's former agent permission to "obtain phone records for agent Stuart Peters and his associate, unlicensed agent Mitchell Thomas".
British tabloid The Sun also reported that that Thomas, a former Spurs player, should not have been involved because he is not a licensed agent.
"This is an ongoing case that is being heard under FA rules by a court of arbitration," an FA spokesperson is quoted as saying by The Sun.
"But we have no special privileges that would let us know at what stage the hearing has reached to determine the final outcome."
