Burnley 'role model' signs new deal

Burnley defender Graham Alexander has signed a new one-year deal with the newly-promoted Premier League side.

According to Sky Sports News, the 37-year-old had agreed to the new deal in principle back in April but has only just signed the agreement on Monday ahead of pre-season.

The Scotland international was an ever-present for the Clarets last term as Owen Coyle's men won promotion via the Championship play-offs.

The former Preston full-back has never featured in the top flight but the veteran will now get his chance and has been rewarded for his performances last season.

Coyle made it one of his priorities this summer to tie Alexander down describing the veteran as a 'role model' both on and off the pitch.

Alexander, although most at home at right-back, filled in for the Clarets in midfield last season and the upcoming campaign will be his third at Turf Moor following his arrival from Preston in August 2007.
