Martinez on the brink of Wigan deal
Wigan are hoping to wrap up the appointment of Roberto Martinez as the club's new manager.
Latics chief executive Brenda Spencer has declared that talks between the club and the Spaniard has been going well but it has taken longer than expected.
"Talks were really positive and I am confident that everything will go through," Spencer told the club's official website.
"As with all these talks there is a lot to go through and agree.
"Roberto and I will continue to keep in touch over the weekend and we hope to announce something early next week."
Wigan lost Steve Bruce to Premier League rivals Sunderland and they have quickly moved to install Swansea boss Martinez as their new manager.
A compensation package with the Championship club and all that is left is for Martinez to agree personal terms with the Latics.
