City turn their attentions to Lucio
Having failed in their bids to sign John Terry, Manchester City have turned to Bayern Munich defender Lucio.
According to skysports.com, Man City officials have flown to Germany to discuss a deal with Bayern for the defender.
The cash-rich Eastlands outfit are in the market for a new central defender as they look to establish themselves as a force in domestic and continental competition.
Chelsea had publicly rejected a second approach from City for England skipper Terry on Friday, with new manager Carlo Ancelotti declaring Terry is not for sale.
Lucio is reported to be considering a move away from the Allianz Arena as he is not guaranteed a first-team place.
However new Bayern coach Louis van Gaal insists that he does not want to see the powerful centre-back move on, but City have the funds to test his resolve.
Hughes has already spent big to land striker Roque Santa Cruz and midfielder Gareth Barry this summer before turning his attentions to his defence, with Lucio now understood to be the club's top target.
