Jose Antonio Reyes

Reds and Toffees jostle for Reyes

Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton are reportedly going to fight it out for the signature of Jose Antonio Reyes.

Reyes is desperately looking for employment after Benfica submitted a cheeky €4 million to take him permanently to the Estádio da Luz.

Atletico Madrid are keen to raise the price tag of their forward.

Reports suggest that the Reds and the Toffees are thinking of bringing the Spaniard back to the Barclays Premier League. Reyes had previously spent three seasons at Arsenal but failed to settle in north London, despite having fleeting moments of success.

Stints at Atletico Madrid and Benfica followed, as well as a season at Real Madrid after his north London gig, but Reyes failed to recapture the form that made him an up-and-coming player at Sevilla.

Despite their interest, Liverpool and Everton would need to persuade Reyes about a move to England, as he failed to assimilate with the locals on his first try.
