Possible Lions First XI

Possible Lions First XI

Kelvin Leong tries his luck at deciphering the mysterious code of the possible starting XI for the Lions against Liverpool.

The Lion City will likely employ a 4-4-2 formation with the focus on four midfielders with boundless energy to defend and attack as a unit against their European counterparts.

Liverpool's wing-play through the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel has been a strong feature in their two pre-season friendlies against St Gallen and Rapid Vienna.

If Xabi Alonso is thrown in from the start, he will be the man to watch out for if the Lions are keen to achieve a good result.

These are the eleven Lions who we hope will make the 55,000 strong crowd stand in unison and let the Anfield giants hear the ferocious 'Kallang Roar'.

espnstar.com's choice Lions' XI

Hassan Sunny

Noh Rahman - Precious Emeujeraye - Baihakki Khaizan - Daniel Bennett

Ridhuan Muhamad - Fahrudin Mustafic - Isa Halim - Shi Jiayi

Aleksandar Duric - Noh Alam Shah

Sunny's agility will be an essential part of the game while Noh Rahman and Daniel Bennett will have the task of keeping Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt quiet down the wings.

Baihakki and Precious have to be focused for the full 90 minutes as any lapse in concentration could mean a potential goalscoring opportunity for the fleet-footed Liverpool strikers, most possibly, David N'Gog and Fernando Torres.

Ridhuan's industry and energetic running down the right could nullify Liverpool's left-wing threat while Shi Jiayi's creativity will be key to unlocking a watertight defence with Jamie Carragher at the helm.

Isa Halim will play the role of destroyer as his primary job will be to break down any of Liverpool's attacks.

Mustafic's range of passing will come under scrutiny when he goes heads up against the talented playmaking skills of Xabi Alonso.

The reason we picked Alam Shah to partner the prolific hitman, Duric, is for his enthusiasm to chase down seemingly lost causes.

Duric will be spearheading the Singapore attack and his ability to hold the ball up and trouble Carragher & Co with his heading prowess could be the difference between victory and defeat.
