Liverpool fans gathered in their thousands to catch their football heroes in action at the Kallang National Stadium.

As I walked around the famed ‘Grand Old Dame' at Kallang, it looked a familiar sight with fans decked out in red jerseys and scarves.
Singapore vs Liverpool blow-by-blow
However, it all became a reality when I realised these fans were actually here to support English giants, Liverpool FC, as part of the club's Asian Tour 2009.
Everton fan, Brendan Wong, who booked a hotel room at the Mandarin Oriental, so that his two young boys, Ethan 9 and Jared 7, could get close to the players, was thrilled at how friendly Rafa Benitez and his men were.
"My two kids have been Liverpool supporters since they started playing football and since we probably aren't going to get to Anfield anytime soon, this is the next best thing.
"Ethan and Jared managed to get every player's autograph while also getting a short word in with Rafa. Sammy Lee was also extremely friendly."
Fans like Australian, Marin Sestan, who flew in all the way from Perth, Western Australia, to catch the game was overjoyed to be able to catch his heroes in action.
He chirped: "I met a group of Liverpool supporters on a forum and they arranged everything for me including ticket to the match and accommodation.
"I can't believe how many Liverpool fans there are in this country. Everyone has been saying hi to me as I walk down the streets all because of my jersey!"
Marin also gave an insight on how he became a Liverpool convert.
"It all started in ‘86 or ‘87, I watched a Liverpool game and saw John Barnes play. He played really well and from there on, I became a Liverpool fan."
But it was the supporters of a Singapore fan-club, East of Anfield, who showed the most passion as they travelled up to Bangkok, Thailand, to watch the first game last week against Thailand.
Fan-club member, Brandon Lee and Terrence Choy, managed to rush back to catch the second game against Singapore at Kallang as well.
"I am 31 this year and I have been supporting Liverpool forever. Ever since football was broadcasted on television, I started my Liverpool fascination." Declared Terrence.
However, Terrence showed a slight bit of loyalty when he said: "I am a Singaporean, so I would say Singapore will score one goal but still get trashed 5-1."
Die-hard fan of the Merseyside club, Brandon declared: "Since I was an 8-year-old boy, I fell in love with the Liver-bird. I was intrigued by it and decided to find out more. And so, here I am today!
Not to be deterred by the arduous journey in Bangkok, which was a comedy of errors, the man was still adamant that it was all worthwhile.
"Getting to the stadium was a long story but it was definitely worthwhile. Even if Liverpool fielded their second-string team, it's still worth it."
How true that was to the tens of thousands of fans who made Kallang a cauldron of red and sang their voices hoarse on this very special night for the Eastsiders of Anfield.
Till the next time the English giants decide to grace our sunny shores, we'll leave you with a quote from Brandon that sums it up best.
"Liverpool is not just a football club. They are a lifestyle, a heritage, a family and a religion!"
