Spurs vs Liverpool: Player Ratings
Who did well in the game between Tottenham and Liverpool? Kelvin Leong rates the players from both sides.
Tottenham Hotspur
Gomes - 2
Cudicini will probably take over as Spurs' No.1 in the next few games. Gomes hacked down Johnson when the defender was moving away from goal. Why?
Ekotto - 8
A wonderful striker to cap off a solid performance as the back. Gave Dirk Kuyt no space to work his magic.
Bassong - 9
Just the kind of player Tottenham fans have been yearning for in the last decade. Stylish defender who can score goals at the other end as well. Great debut.
King - 7.5
The captain was the voice of the team. Commanding his troops and keeping Fernando Torres at bay all day.
Corluka - 7
Provided Spurs with an option down the right in support of Aaron Lennon.
Palacios - 8
The midfield general gave nothing away and made Lucas look like a schoolboy in the park.
Huddlestone - 7.5
Tasked with the ‘Xabi Alonso' role for the home team, the youngster sprayed the passes across the pitch with consummate ease.
Lennon - 6
No one moves as fast as Lennon does with the ball at his feet. However, he still has issues when it comes to his final delivery into the box.
Modric - 7.5
This is the season for the Croatian to show his true prowess. Blessed with the speed and guile to unlock defences, Modric will be key to Redknapp's plans for the season.
Keano - 5.5
Was he trying not to embarrass his boyhood club? Missed a couple of sitters that almost gave the game away.
Defoe - 6.5
Was full of running and showed just why Redknapp chose to put him in the starting line-up ahead of Peter Crouch.
Substitutes
Peter Crouch - Brought on to run down the clock
Jamie O'Hara - Brought on to run down the clock
Roman Pavlyuchenko - Brought on the run down the clock
Liverpool
Reina - 8
If not for Reina, Liverpool would have been given a sound trashing. Made a handful of great saves.
Johnson - 6.5
His run gave Liverpool the penalty to level the game but was largely anonymous on the right wing.
Carragher - 5
Went crashing into Skrtel when it would have been better leaving it to his defensive partner. Looked a bundle of nerves.
Skrtel - 5
After getting a good whack on his jaw by Carragher, Skrtel seemed to be in pain for the rest of the game and never quite found his feet.
Insua - 6
Nullified the threat posed by Lennon but his overlapping runs never quite materialized into any decent crosses.
Mascherano - 6.5
The Argentine enforcer had to run the show on his own with Lucas seemingly lost in the middle of the park.
Could not contain Palacios and Huddlestone on his own.
Lucas - 3
Just why Benitez refuses to send Lucas away from Anfield is mind-boggling. The Brazilian midfielder is no more than an average player incapable of handling the pressure.
Kuyt - 5
The flying Dutchman was never given much time and space on the ball. He was seen remonstrating frustratingly at his fellow teammates.
Babel - 5.5
Just like Lucas, Babel is fast becoming another Premier League flop.
Gerrard - 6
Quiet game by his high stanards. Besides scoring from the penalty spot, Gerrard did nothing else.
Torres - 6.5
He huffed and puffed but the lack of services along with some brilliant defending from the Spurs back-four meant that El Nino was left chasing shadows.
Substitutes
Benayoun - 5.5
Showed his creativity when he came into the game. Will probably get the nod ahead of the misfiring Babel.
Voronin - 5
Came on too late to make any significant impact.
