Liv vs Aston Villa: Player Ratings
We take a look at the players who made a difference at Anfield in Aston Villa's stunning win over Liverpool.
Rafa Benitez will no doubt blame the refereeing decisions for his side's first loss at home in a long while but the truth is that Liverpool never quite showed up at Anfield.
Liverpool
Reina - 6.5
The Spaniard was frustrated by his defenders and got distracted from the task at hand.
Johnson - 6
Ashley Young gave Johnson no chance of going on the offensive.
Carragher - 5
For some reason, Carra does not seem to be himself this season. Shaky in every aspect.
Skrtel - 5
Luckily for Benitez, he has bought a new central defender because Skrtel has absolutely no clue that the season has already started.
Insua - 6
How long more can he live on the ‘promising talent' tag? Good overlapping runs with no end product.
Lucas - 5
Enough is enough. You can put Lucas' name down on the ‘Flops of the Season' list already. Replacement for Xabi Alonso? No chance.
Mascherano - 6
Having to patrol the middle of the park without any support from his Brazilian friend seems to have put the Argentine into a bundle of nerves.
Kuyt - 6
The Dutch striker, midfielder, winger and sometimes playmaker seems to have lost his bearings on how to actually play as a forward. He even resorted to diving.
Benayoun - 7.5
The only player who showed any sort of creativity in the final third. Who else did Benitez have in place of him?
Gerrard - 5.5
Oh where, oh where has Gerrard been? At this rate, Fabio Capello might as well play Tom Huddlestone alongside Frank Lampard at the 2010 World Cup.
Torres - 6.5
El Nino's is struggling to lead the line on his own with little help from his teammates.
Scored a goal to salvage an otherwise poor outing.
Aston Villa
Friedel - 7
Did the basics well and was never troubled by Liverpool much.
Beye - 7.5
Showed just why Martin O'Neill brought him in from Newcastle United. Solid showing.
Davies - 8.5
With Fabio Capello in the stands, Davies might have played his way into the England manager's plans.
Cuellar - 7
Solid performance. Never gave Torres time to settle on the ball.
Shorey - 7.5
The former Reading defender was resolute in his tackles and stopped Insua from causing any damage down the left flank.
Milner - 8
Milner's hardworking and combative style of play frustrated the likes of Gerrard and Kuyt while also providing options when he went on the offensive.
Sidwell - 7
Did the dirty work in the middle and showed no weakness against Mascherano.
Petrov - 8
The Bulgarian midfielder looked comfortable in attack while also providing a commanding voice in defence.
Reo-Coker - 8.5
Reo-Coker was covering every blade of grass on the pitch as if his life depended on it.
Ashley Young - 9
Capello's answer to the left wing problem for England.
Benitez should beg Young to give Babel a lesson in wing-play.
Agbonlahor - 7.5
His burst of pace was a nightmare for Carra and Skrtel. Another strong contender for a long-term Three Lions spot.
