Man Utd vs Sunderland: Player Ratings
We rate the players involved in the 2-2 draw between Manchester United and Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Manchester United
Ben Foster - 5
Shared the blame with Vidic for the second goal. Could have done better with Bent's strike too.
Jonathan Evans - 6
Had a quiet match. Will be hoping to make more of an impact in future fixtures
Nemanja Vidic - 5
Not nearly as commanding a performance from the Serbian as we have become used to. Fergie will want more.
Patrice Evra - 8
Greased lighting on the field. His fortuitous strike resuced a point for the home team
John O'Shea - 7
Should have been marking Bent better but did provide the assist that led to Berbatov's spectacular.
Paul Scholes - 4
Had an absolute shocker. Misplaced passes and needless fouls resulted in a half time substitution
Darren Fletcher - 3
One of the few United players who had a decent game. Still could not boss the midfield though.
Danny Welbeck - 6
Another who had a quiet game and misplaced quite a number of passes.
Nani - 7
Troubled the Cats' back line with pacy incisions. Tendency to go for the incredible still a weak point.
Dimitar Berbatov - 7
Was strolling about cluelessly until a moment of explosive brilliance reminded us what he's all about.
Wayne Rooney - 6
Industrious as usual. More unusual perhaps was the inability to make a serious impact on the game.
Substitutes
Anderson - 5
Replaced the ineffective Scholes. Did not do much better.
Michael Carrick - 5
Came on with less than 20 minutes left. The match was nearly over by the time he had settled.
Antonio Valencia - 6
Caused a Sunderland defence some worry with a few powerful runs down the flank. Good impact player.
Sunderland
Craig Gordon - 5
Believe it or not - the visiting keeper did not have much to do at Old Trafford. Both goals were unstoppable.
Anton Ferdinand - 7
Played brilliantly for 90 minutes - keeping United's attacks at bay. Unfortunately, it was the deflection off him that cost his side two points.
Michael Turner - 8
Had an absolutely solid game at the back. Won a fair few tussels against the strength of Rooney and pace of Nani.
Kieran Richardson - 4
Blotted his copybook with a petulant foul that resulted in a second yellow. All 11 men on the pitch might well have given Sunderland their first victory at Old Trafford in 41 years
Philip Bardsley - 5
Put in a performance that was effective without being eye-catching.
Lee Cattermole - 9
Was at the heart of most of Sunderland's forward forays. A hard working and underrated player who opponets need to take more notice of.
Lorik Cana - 7
Came off reasonably well in the battle for that all important part of the pitch - midfield.
Andy Reid - 7
Partnered well with Cana. Bruce will be hoping for more of the same for the rest of the season.
Steed Malbranque - 8
Combined defensive duties admirably with some mazy runs through United's defence. He's making a name for himself amongst the Stadium of Light faithful.
Kenwyne Jones - 7
Scored the all important second goal. The lanky forward still needs to improve his first touch to become as effective on the ground as he is in the air.
Darren Bent - 9
Had one of his best nights in the Sunderland jersey. The willingness to help out his teammates defensively was as impressive as his superb strike from outside the box.
Substitutes
Jordan Henderson - 7
The youngster made an instant impact down the right hand side. His square pass to Jones should have resulted in a third goal and secured an improbable win.
Frazier Campbell - 5
Used as a strategy by Bruce to take up some time in the closing stages. Did not have too much to do.
George McCartney - 5
Had too little time to make an impact. Will be hoping for some starting opportunities this season.
