Edwin van der Sar is set for his highly-anticipated comeback after coming through unscathed in the reserves.

Ben Foster has been taking charge between the sticks for Manchester United ever since van der Sar injured his fingers during a pre-season match with Bayern Munich.

Foster's unconvincing displays have prompted United fans to clamour for the return of van der Sar.

And the Dutchman seems to be ready.

"I want my place back," he said.

"Playing in the reserves on Tuesday was an ideal moment for me to get a game under my belt before the Premier League begins again after the international break. I needed a game."
