Thomas Vermaelen reckons he is one of the best in the business when it comes to heading a football.

The Belgian defender's first season as a Gunner has been a sensational one with noy only his ability as a defender outshining the likes of William Gallas but also his thumping headers which has seen him net four goals so far.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the defender said:"I know I'm not tall but, if you speak to people at Ajax they'll tell you I was the best header there,

"They don't care about how big I am, whenever we were defending a corner I always had to take the tallest guy.

"I'm not that tall but you have to jump so that's how I try and compensate. I never trained for it. It's just timing, I guess."

He was also full of praise when asked about his superstar teammate, Cesc Fabregas.

Vermaelen said:"Playing and training with so many big stars, the beginning was a bit like a dream.

"I think Fabregas is brilliant," he said. "If you play against him in the little training games - eight against eight - it is almost impossible to win." 

If Vermaelen continues his sizzling form for the rest of the season, Arsene Wenger might have to fend off huge bids from across Europe for the former Ajax Amsterdam defender.
