Torres to defy doctor’s orders
Fernando Torres will put his doctor’s advice aside in his attempt to drag Liverpool out of their current decline.
Torres has the desire to play against Birmingham on Monday evening despite a groin injury, and his doctor's instruction to stop playing for three weeks.
The Spainish international's actions could drive a wedge in relations between Liverpool and Spain, who had earlier agreed not to select Torres for their game against Argentina, in a bid to rest the player.
Torres was advised to stop all physical activities after his visit to Valencia to look up Dr. Ramon Cugat, who Rafa Benitez recommended to his compatriot.
Cugat told Torres that he could put off surgery if he got enough rest during the season.
But the striker was back in training the next day and he intends to play past the pain threshold as the Reds aim to end their losing run, which has seen the Premier League giants lose seven out of eight games.
Reds captain Steven Gerrard managed to train after being given pain killers before the session.
Gerrard's situation will be looked at over the weekend and he could be playing wounded when Liverpool take on Birmingham City.
Daniel Agger, who might feature in the game after coming back from a back operation, told The Sun: "We have just got to look forward to the Birmingham game to get going.
"If we keep playing with the effort we have shown we hope the situation will turn for us."
