Pellegrino: Rafa’s very calm
Mauricio Pellegrino has given his support to Rafael Benitez, stating that the Liverpool boss can turn the struggling Reds around.
Pellegrino added that Benitez's method are correct, citing that last term's point total would have been meant a Premier League trophy for the Reds in most years.
"Rafa has gained a lot of experience from his last clubs. Like everyone he encounters good moments and bad situations but he's always really calm - he's really calm when things are not the best," the coach told the Liverpool Echo.
"He keeps going and he convinces the rest of the people to keep going in the same way as always."
He continued: "Last season we were really close to winning the league. We got 86 points - and if you look at the last 20 years, this points total would have been enough to win 15 of them.
"There is a huge amount we can still improve on. We are in a difficult moment but this team is working very hard.
"We need to win a couple of games and everything will change."
Pellegrino then touched on his personal development as a coach since being employed on Benitez's staff.
"I have learned a lot in this past year from Rafa," added Pellegrino.
"I enjoy my job and I try to improve every single day and think about what's best for the team and the club. The mood among the staff is good."
