Man Utd vs Everton Key Battles
espnstar.com reviews the key battles which may prove decisive when Everton visit Old Trafford this weekend.
Sir Alex Ferguson vs David Moyes
Fergie has seen and done it all throughout his time as United manager and is currently presiding over a team in transition. With Scholes & Giggs not as influential as they once were, with Ronaldo departed and with Berbatov struggling to find any semblance of form Fergie finds himself shorn of his most attacking talents. However, he has done it before and who would bet against him doing it again. He has turned Darren Fletcher into a class midfielder and his nurturing of Antonio Valencia looks to be on the verge of paying dividend. Despite all these problems his side are in the mix for the Premier League and are capable of grinding out wins even when not playing at their best
If Fergie is the master then many believe David Moyes to be the apprentice. Moyes has molded an Everton side that are hard to beat, give their all each-and-every time they step out onto the pitch and have enough touches of quality to bring them success. Respected by his players and a good motivator Moyes will send his team out at Old Trafford with a clear game-plan and with the belief that they can win. Not afraid to change things on the pitch if required look out for a tactical battle with his wily opposite number.

Wayne Rooney vs Joseph Yobo
Rooney is in the form of his life and to some extent is carrying United on his broad shoulders as they search for the right attacking balance. His strength, his limitless energy and his desire to win make him a handful for any defender to cope with and he is capable of winning the match with one moment of brilliance. Watch out for him dropping deep so that he can run at the Everton centre-backs or dictate play with his touch and vision. With deceptive pace he can bulldoze past defenders and when presented with a chance on goal his finishing is assured and clinical. When United play well it is because Rooney plays well - and on his day he can be simply unstoppable.
Yobo is a tough, strong and uncompromising defender who likes nothing more than a physical battle. He can use his size advantage to bully centre-forwards and will look to dominate in the air against the smaller Rooney. What he lacks in skill and pace he makes up for in his excellent positioning and his aggressive approach. If he can frustrate Rooney and keep him with his back to goal then he will have nullified United's greatest threat.
John O'Shea vs Tim Cahill
O'Shea has grown into a key member of this United side - providing a solid and dependable presence at a time when the team is struggling for top form. Deployed as a deep lying central midfielder his job is to break up play and provide added protection to his centre-backs. He is also comfortable on the ball and has a decent range of passes - thus helping link defence with attack. A player who never lets you down and sticks to the task at hand he may well play as a man-marker for the dangerous Cahill.
Tim Cahill is one of those players who deliver when it matters - turning a game on its head with a last minute goal or vital assist. With a great engine he works his socks off for 90 minutes and has the happy knack of popping up in the danger area at the right time. He has great vision, a powerful shot and is exceptional in the air for a relatively small man.
If O'Shea loses concentration for one second then expect Cahill to do what he does best - score.
