Edwin Van Der Sar - 7

A solid performance by the veteran keeper. Rushed out to collect tricky through balls and was dominating as usual between the sticks.

Nemanja Vidic - 6

Kept the tall Fellaini at bay throughout the match.

Wes Brown - 6.5

A creditable performance by the central defender. Filled Rio Ferdinand's boots admirably.

Patrice Evra - 7.5

Zippy on the flanks. Overlapped Carrick constantly and caused frequent disturbances in Everton's final third.

Rafael (off 63') - 7

The youngster showed he's prepared to mix it with the big boys with some crunching tackles.

Michael Carrick (off 83') - 7.5

Bossed the midfield with partner in crime Darren Fletcher. His superbly placed drive secured the game for the Devils.

Darren Fletcher - 9.5

Had a marvellous night that started off with a strike that will surely be a contender for goal of the season. Continued pressing forward throughout the night.

Ryan Giggs - 7

Another good performance by the indefatigable midfielder. Set up the second goal with a beautifully weighted pass to Carrick that the latter put away.

Antonio Valencia - 7.5

Finally showed glimpses of the player he was at Wigan. Got on the scoresheet with a lucky deflection but the overall performance suggested he might finally be settling in at Old Trafford.

Michael Owen - 5

Was in on goal a few times but failed to make the most of it.

Wayne Rooney (off 74') - 6.5

Stole balls from right under the defender's noses. Hit a fearsome strike that skimmed the Everton crossbar.

Did not really make an impact.

United were already cruising by the time he came on.

None of the goals were stoppable and did not make any howlers otherwise.

Made a few crucial blocks, especially from Rooney strikes. The scoreline could have been much worse otherwise.

Looked all at sea against the slick United passing.

Leighton Baines - 7

Pick of the Everton defence. His first half performance was absolutely brilliant.

Lucas Neill - 4.5

Got skinned on too many occasions for David Moyes' comfort.

Johny Heitinga - 5.5

Decent outing for the midfielder. Had one good chance to test Van der Sar, but shot straight at the Dutchman.

Jack Rodwell - 4.5

Got overrun by Messrs Carrick and Fletcher.

Marouane Fellaini - 4

Largely ineffective. Not a single memorable pass and did not have even a sniff of goal.

Tim Cahill (off 83') - 5.5

Was through on goal twice, but his lack of pace let him down.

Dan Gosling (off 45') - 5

Largely anonymous and was replaced at half time

Louis Saha (off 83') - 4.5

The striker had quite a number of opportunities to hit the target. Ended up snatching at his shots. Looked nervous against his former team.
