"The beginning was a bit like a dream"

Thomas Vermaelen never thought that he would receive a call from Arsene Wenger asking him to join Arsenal.

He revealed that throughout the first few moments of the initial telephone call with the ‘Professor', he thought it was a prank call.

The young centre back has been a surprise package  this season and is fast becoming a fan favourite, especially since he has been contributing to the goal tally for the pillaging Gunners.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the young stopper initially believed the call he received from his present boss was no more than a prank played on him by his friends.

"Me and my friends, we call people, joking, pretending to be someone else," he said, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

"I thought maybe it was one of the guys. So for the first few seconds I was listening really carefully, but after a few seconds I knew it was him."

The Belgian is still unable to believe his present day position, and is still attempting to believe that his reality not just a dream.
He gushed: "Playing and training with so many big stars, the beginning was a bit like a dream.

"I think Fabregas is brilliant. If you play against him in the little training games - eight against eight - it is almost impossible to win."
