Crouch: Spurs confidence sky high

Peter Crouch is adamant that Tottenham are now Champions League candidates following their 9-1 thrashing of Wigan.

Spurs recorded the second largest Premier League win in history last week at White Hart Lane.

The north London club face a more difficult opponent on Saturday when they travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa, a club aiming for Europe as well.

Former Villan Crouch has revealed that confidence is at an all-time high after Spurs' stellar start to the season.

"We don't want to get carried away it's only one game after all, but yes Wigan was a fantastic result," said Crouch, who bagged the opener in that game.

"If you can't take confidence from a game like that, then I don't know where you can, it's the type of match everyone wants to play in.

"As for the top four we just have to keep plugging away. We all believe there is enough ability to get in there, but we don't want to talk too much, we want to that that talking on the pitch.

"We have made a bit of a statement with that result but we have to keep going along with all the other games and see.

"People will look and that result and say 'oh my God' Spurs are flying, people are going to take notice, but the objective is always to get three points."

Jermain Defoe bagged five goals against a woeful Wigan defence, and Crouch believe that Tottenham's wealth of offensive weapons means that they have the edge in attack over most teams.

"We can score from loads of positions," said the 28-year-old striker. "We have goal scorers, we have players who can open up defences and we have players who can do the creative things like Modric, such fantastic players.

"Our football is exciting to watch. The fans who pay their money should be excited by what's happening.

"The way Spurs pass the ball, scoring, movement it's all top class. All round we can take a lot of heart from that but we must remember it's (Wigan game) only one game but if we play like that again, it will be great.

"We will keep doing what we have been doing and not worry about other teams too much."
