Lampard: Arsenal fans, thank you!

Frank Lampard has publically thanks Arsenal’s legion of fans for slamming Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole.

Cole moved from the Emirates to Stamford Bridge in 2006 and was jeered every time he got the ball during the Blues' 3-0 thumping of the Gunners.

However, the ploy to irritate the left-back backfired as he went on to assist in Chelsea's first two goals by supplying highly accurate crosses.

Didier Drogba pounced on the first to score before Thomas Vermaelen deflected the other for an own goal.

Drogba completed the thrashing by drilling a free-kick into the back of the net in the 86th minute and Lampard was ecstatic to see Cole render the Emirates Stadium silent.

The England midfielder said: "I don't think booing ever works. I don't know when people will learn that it's not the way to do it.

"I think the best thing is to stay quiet, watch the game and cheer on your own team.

"Putting all your efforts into just getting someone psyched up to do a good job against your team is obviously the wrong way to go about it.

"Ash is very experienced with dealing with it - he's had it a few times now and it obviously spurs him on to put in performances like he did.

"He's shown his quality for a long time. For probably the last two years he's been completely out on his own as the best left-back in the world."
