Weiss to stay Citizen till 2012

Manchester City midfielder Vladimir Weiss is set to remain with the club till 2012.

The 20-year-old wing scored his first goal for the club in their League Cup clash against Arsenal. He is yet to make a Premier League start for the Eastland club but is happy to remain with the Citizens.

He spoke to the club's official website regarding his future: "I have been here for four years now and I came here to realise my first-team ambitions. I am delighted to have signed this contract.

"I am excited about what the future holds and delighted that even with the players that City have got now, the club have given me the opportunity to progress and show that not only the big players can make it."

Weiss is a product of the club's famed youth academy and played a major role in the club's 2008 FA Youth Cup success.

The young Slovakian believed that his new contract was a reflection to how far academy graduates could progress at City. He added, "The new deal shows that young players from the academy can progress. I am happy that I am one of them.

"I look at Stephen Ireland, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Micah Richards and Nedum Onouha and think 'why not me?' I can be the next one from the Academy to progress."
The Eastlands gaffer, Mark Hughes is delighted with securing the services of his protégé and only had kind words for him: "Vladi has come on leaps and bounds in the last four months and is fast maturing as a player.

"He has all the attributes that electrify crowds and that can turn matches. He has the temperament for big games and we look forward to his further development."
