Liverpool legend, Ian Rush has urged Rafa Benitez to sign former Manchester United striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The legendary striker made this assessment prior to the Portsmouth game which was another big blow to club as they slumped to a 2-0 loss at Fratton Park.

With all the goalscoring duties left on the shoulders of Fernando Torres, Rush was adamant that the Spaniard hotshot needs help.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Rush said:"Sometimes Torres needs a break, and if Rafa has only one wish in the transfer window, I hope it's a top-class striker.

"I would love to see him bring in someone like Van Nistelrooy, a proven goalscorer with experience at the highest level."

Rush was also quick to state that despite Van Nistelrooy having turned out in the red of United, Liverpool fans will always be ready to give any player a chance.

He added: "World-class predators like him don't become available every day of the week, and it doesn't bother me where he's played before - all it would take is a couple of goals and the supporters would take to him in a flash."

Liverpool's season has gone awfully wrong with the most likely piece of silverware available coming in to shape of the Europa League.
