Premier League Weekend Team News

We bring you team news for all the Premier League matches that are going to take place this weekend.

Stoke City vs Liverpool

Liverpool will be without their most influential trio of players in striker Fernando Torres, captain Steven Gerrard and midfielder Yossi Benayoun for Saturday's match at Stoke.

All were injured in the midweek FA Cup exit to Reading, with Torres requiring knee surgery which will keep him out for six weeks, Benayoun sustaining a broken rib likely to sideline him for a month and Gerrard out for a fortnight with a hamstring problem.

Goalkeeper Jose Reina, who missed out on Wednesday with a slight back injury, will be assessed late on.

Defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano returns after a four-match suspension and new signing Maxi Rodriguez will also be involved after signing from Atletico Madrid in midweek.

Winger Albert Riera is included again after recovering from a hamstring problem but Dutch forward Ryan Babel has been dropped from the squad.

Stoke striker Tuncay Sanli is again doubtful.

Tuncay has yet to fully recover from a hamstring injury sustained in Stoke's 3-2 home win over Fulham 10 days ago.

With the Potters failing to land England goalkeeper David James on loan from Portsmouth, boss Tony Pulis will decide between Thomas Sorensen and Steve Simonsen for the number one spot as the latter stepped in against the Cottagers after the Dane sustained a finger injury.

Teams:

Stoke (from): Sorensen, Huth, Abdoulaye Faye, Higginbotham, Collins, Lawrence, Sidibe, Whitehead, Delap, Diao, Tonge, Kitson, Beattie, Etherington, Fuller, Tuncay, Cort, Pugh, Whelan, Simonsen.

Chelsea vs Sunderland

Chelsea will be without midfielder Deco when they entertain Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Deco has recovered from his hamstring problem but is not yet match-fit. He is expected to return for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Preston next week.

Right-back Jose Bosingwa is still not match-fit following his knee surgery and the Blues are without John Mikel Obi, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou. All four are on international duty in the African Nations Cup.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce could welcome back Kenwyne Jones, Kieran Richardson and Bolo Zenden.

Jones and Richardson have both been sidelined with calf and hamstring injuries respectively, while Zenden has been troubled by hamstring problems for much of his time at the Stadium of Light to date.

However, central defender Michael Turner will be missing once again as he completes his four-match ban, and Bruce still has other fitness problems.

Keeper Craig Gordon is nearing a return from his broken arm, but Nyron Nosworthy (knee), Anton Ferdinand (ankle) and Andy Reid, Lee Cattermole and John Mensah (all hamstring) remain on the casualty list and defender Russell Anderson's contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Teams:

Chelsea (from): Cech, Hilario, Turnbull, Ivanovic, Belletti, Alex, Carvalho, Terry, A Cole, Lampard, Ballack, Malouda, J Cole, Zhirkov, Kakuta, Bruma, Borini, Sturridge, Matic, Anelka.

Manchester United vs Burnley

Darren Fletcher will miss Manchester United's Barclays Premier League encounter with Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Scotland captain was sent off for two bookable offences at Birmingham last week and serves a one-match suspension.

Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves will not be considered despite edging their way closer to a return after long-term absences but Edwin van der Sar is expected to feature for the first time since November 21.

Brian Laws faces major problems in central defence for his first match in charge of Burnley.

Skipper Steven Caldwell (groin) is definitely out while Clarke Carlisle is rated as only 50-50 with a side strain. Meanwhile Andre Bikey is absent on African Nations Cup duty.

Michael Duff is expected to continue at centre-back and if Carlisle fails to make it that could mean a league debut for young Canadian defender David Edgar, signed in the summer from Newcastle.

Teams:

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Neville, Rafael, De Laet, Brown, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Valencia, Park, Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, Gibson, Giggs, Obertan, Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck, Diouf.

The England international was on the verge of a move to Stoke but the deal fell through after Pompey, according to the BBC, refused to pay his wages until the end of the season.

Younes Kaboul is also expected to return from injury but midfielder Jamie O'Hara's loan deal from Tottenham expired on Friday and he is unavailable, along with Nadir Belhadj, Hassan Yebda, Aruna Dindane and Kanu, who are playing in the African Nations Cup.

In-form Birmingham have included new signing Michel in their squad.

The midfielder, who this week became Blues manager Alex McLeish's first capture during the January transfer window in a £3million deal, is added to the players who were on duty in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup which extended City's unbeaten run to 14 matches.

The Frenchman has been sidelined with a knee injury since December 16 but has finally regained his fitness.

New signing Gary Caldwell, who arrived from Celtic in midweek, could get a place in the squad but manager Roberto Martinez may decide to hold back fellow defender Steven Gohouri.

The Ivory Coast international, who also this week signed a deal until the end of the season, has not played a match since leaving Borussia Monchengladbach last month.

Wolves veteran defender Jody Craddock is poised to make his 200th apppearance for the club.

The 34-year-old, who joined Wolves seven years ago from Sunderland in a £1.75million deal, has regained his first team spot this season and scored four goals.

Manager David Moyes has confirmed Lucas Neill is available to play against City before his proposed move to Galatasaray.

Victor Anichebe, Mikel Arteta, Tony Hibbert, Phil Jagielka, Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling are all injured, while Ayegbeni Yakubu and Joseph Yobo are at the African Nations Cup.

It is understood Brazilian striker Jo will not feature in the squad following his suspension for a breach of discipline.

Nedum Onuoha could return to the Manchester City squad.

Onuoha has missed four games with a calf injury but is expected to be on the bench as new boss Roberto Mancini looks to maintain his 100% record.

Vince Grella (thigh) and Jason Roberts (knee) are also still sidelined, while El-Hadji Diouf is suspended - but

Allardyce is hopeful that Gael Givet will have recovered from a head injury in time for the visit of Roy Hodgson's side.
