Rooney: We can break the record
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is confident that his side can break the record and win the league title four times in a row.
The England hitman scored his 100th league goal against Arsenal at the weekend to help United move to within one point of leaders Chelsea.
In a report by The Mirror, Rooney revealed his ambitious plan to keep United at the top of English football and made a vow to break even more records along the way.
Rooney said: "I hope we can kick on and win the title,
"We've won the last three and nobody's won four in a row, so hopefully we can break the record.
"It's closer this year and more exciting. Chelsea and Arsenal are there. Liverpool have struggled but are a quality team and will be competing at the end of the season."
Speaking about his fine form in front of goal this season, Rooney attributed it to hard work and a lot of practice during training sessions.
He added: "I've never really scored that many goals from inside the six-yard box over the years but I've been working on that - and thankfully it's starting to pay off,
"We did a test to see who had the hardest shot at Man United a couple of years ago and it was me and Scholesy.
"As a football fan, you like to see goals flying in from all over the place, but I've not really scored that many great goals. They've all been fairly similar!
With calls from the fans to install Rooney as the successor to Gary Neville for the United armband, the striker refused to put his name in the frame.
"I don't look at myself as a great leader. I give my all and want to win. It's about helping my teammates by making runs or chasing the full-back.
"Sometimes, I'm tired but I don't want to lose and it gives me extra motivation to work hard. My parents brought me up to never give in.
"There's always speculation in football and it's nice to be talked about. But as I've said many times, I'm a Man United player and very happy at Old Trafford." concluded the England star.
