Strachan: Pompey fans would swap cup
Gordon Strachan insists Portsmouth fans would willingly swap their FA Cup triumph for financial stability.
Pompey are facing a race against time to save themselves as HM Revenue and Customs pursue an unpaid tax of £11.5million.
The mood around Fratton Park is in stark contrast to that when they lifted the FA Cup under Harry Redknapp in 2008, and Strachan has little doubt that the club's supporters would hand back the famous trophy in return for a future.
He said: "If you said to Portsmouth fans, 'Would you swap your cup final day for security for the next 20 years?', I know what they would pick.
"I lived in the Portsmouth area and I know fine well if you said to them, 'Would you swap one day in the sunshine at Cardiff to be secure for the next 20 years?', there would be absolutely no doubt about it.
"Some of my best friends are Portsmouth fans and they would swap that right away."
