Clichy: We are Gunner fight till the end

Gael Clichy believes Arsenal would eclipse their 'Invincibles' if they won the Premier League this season.

The defender was a member of the Gunners squad which lifted the title in 2004 after incredibly going the entire campaign without losing a league match.

Arsenal are in contention to finish top of the pile again this time for the first time in six years, and Clichy feels that would prove a significant achievement.

The Frenchman thinks that silencing the critics of Arsene Wenger's inexperienced squad would rank above an unbeaten campaign.

Asked if winning the league this season would be an accomplishment to match 2004, Clichy told Sky Sports News: "Even more, because people really doubt Arsenal.

"With the young team we have, people were saying a lot of bad things about us.

"That is the first thing we want to do. We want to show them we are a bit more mature now and that we can compete in this league, which is the best league in the world.

"We are going to fight until the end to make something happen because this year could be our year."

Clichy also insists that he never had any doubts about team-mate Nicklas Bendtner's mentality after the striker responded to his domestic horror-show against Burnley with a hat-trick against Porto in the Champions League.

The full-back said: "That says everything for the character of Nicklas.

"Sometimes people can feel he is a bit arrogant and he is a bit careless about the result and what he is doing on the pitch.

"But he is a great guy and certainly not missing any confidence about himself."

Clichy added: "If something is wrong today, it will be better tomorrow and that is his philosophy of life."
