Riera: Rafa's lost the plot!
Liverpool winger Albert Riera has revealed that their manager Rafa Benitez rarely speaks to his players.
Speaking to Radio Marca the Spaniard said: "In the two years I have been here he has never managed a situation with a player by talking to him. He thinks he is the boss and everyone else is deaf. The dialogue with the players is practically zero."
The recently out of favour winger also admitted that he is rather upset with a lack of explanation as to why he has been dropped from the side.
"When the coach says nothing to you and you are well, with no physical problems and training well, you cannot help but think it must be something personal.
"You see that the team are not doing well and there are no changes. It's a little frustrating because you see that you can help.
"If I'm doing something wrong and you are my boss, and you count on me, then why not come and tell me what I need to do to play? That's what really hurts.
"Torres and Reina encourage me. They tell me that they know that if I play, I will do well. But a week goes by and then another and another and nothing has been achieved.
"There is a lack of tact which seems impossible as there shouldn't be, even if there are communication problems with Spanish because my English is not so bad," he added.
He continued to express his bewilderment with how much the club has missed the services of f Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso.
"It's unbelievable that two players have changed things this much."
He concluded with a parting shot at his manager, insisting that it would impossible for Benitez to helm Real Madrid.
"In Madrid, they ask you to play well as well as win. I see this as the difficult thing. We have never played beautiful football - effective, yes - but we haven't displayed brilliant play."
Regarding his future, Riera knows his hopes of gaining a place in Spain's World Cup squad depends on him playing first-team football.
"I would like to be here for the rest of my career, but players live to play. My objective is to go to the World Cup and for this I have to play," he said.
"Right now the only market open is the Russian one, I have offers from two teams and, looking at my situation, that has made me reflect a lot."
