Rafa: Everyone be like Reina

Rafa: Everyone be like Reina

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has called on his superstars to emulate the behaviour of Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Reina is set to sign a long-term deal with the Reds, despite some uncertainties over the future.

The Spaniard has revealed that he is close to finalizing a contract extension which will see one of the world's best keepers stay at Anfield for the prime of his career.

Reina commitment to Liverpool is an anomaly among Liverpool's stable of stars, with speculation mounting that the likes of Fernando Torres will dump the club should they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The prolific striker has dropped the bomb that unless some high-calibre players are signed in the summer, he will leave Liverpool.

However, Benitez is adamant that one season of mediocrity should not decimate everything he has built at the Merseyside club, and he has urged other stars to follow Reina's lead.

"It is important to show the commitment that Pepe has, and it's an example for everyone. Maybe it will be an example for the rest of the players for the future," Benitez said.

"You can see every day how much he loves being here. Pepe's very happy, his family is very happy and he is settled. He's a great character, loves the fans, they love him, so everything's good for him.

"That is an important example for everyone. One good or bad year doesn't make the difference, you have to see the big picture, and the big picture is the future of Liverpool still being positive."

Benitez leads Liverpool into Thursday's Europa League match against Lille knowing that failure in the competition will represent a barren season for the Reds.

And the Reds boss has a problem with picking his line-up as Alberto Aquilani is doubtful due to a viral infection.

Maxi Rodriguez is unavailable as he is cup-tied, but Benitez insists that his team will play for the victory.

"We know we have to win, nothing else will do, and that is what we will aim for from the first whistle," he said.
