Drogba and Torres to play together?

Drogba and Torres to play together?

In the wake of Chelsea's Champions League exit, owner Roman Abramovich is looking to spend some serious money.

The Russian billionaire has been repeatedly foiled in his bid to lift Europe's biggest crown. His team came close in 2008 when John Terry and Nicolas Anelka missed penalties to hand the trophy to Manchester United.

In 2009, the Blues were controversially dumped out by Barcelona at the semi-final stage and things got worse this year when they lost to Inter Milan in the round-of-16.

This latest reverse has reportedly enraged Abramovic and the Russian is all set to spend some serious money in order to bring even more quality to his squad.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, coach Carlo Ancelotti has received carte blanche from the owner and the Italian wants to bring together Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba to form a terrifying striking partnership.

The Blues are planning to launch a £50 million bid to lure the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge. The London outfit tried to sign El Nino in 2008 but were foiled by Liverpool.

Now, they're going to give it another shot.

Meanwhile Drogba - who was sent off for the third successive season said: "I don't know if we are jinxed in the Champions League. It's difficult because every season we start and we have a lot of belief, then to go out like this is difficult, especially at home."

"We have to come back stronger because the league is going to be a big battle.

"We have played one game less than Arsenal and Manchester United and have to win that first and then do everything to stay there and be top again. We have to focus on the league and the FA Cup."
