Defoe out for important stretch
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Jermain Defoe is set to be sidelined with injury for “a few weeks”.
Defoe is Spurs' leading scorer this season with 23 goals in all competitions.
The diminutive striker has torn his hamstring and will miss Spurs' Premier League visit to Stoke City on Saturday.
Redknapp confirmed: "It's a grade-two tear but it will be a few weeks. He is struggling."
Defoe joins a long list of 'walking wounded' at White Hart Lane, with Tom Huddlestone, David Bentley, Aaron Lennon, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate all out for various periods of time.
Redknapp also revealed injuries to Kyle Walker (arm) and Danny Rose (knee), which limits his options this weekend.
