Benitez getting rid of Riera
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is trying his best to sew up a deal with Spartak Moscow to sell Albert Riera.
The winger has been in Rafa's bad books ever since his stunning outburst a few days ago - when he said the manager ignored his players - amongst a host of other startling accusations.
Riera was suspended for his outburst on Thursday, but returned to training on Monday. The manager however, seems to be keen to get rid of the divisive winger as soon as possible.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Benitez wants to take advantage of Russia's extended transfer deadline (April 8) to try and sell him to Spartak Moscow. This would help him recoup part of or the complete £6 million he paid to sign Riera from Espanyol.
The 27-year-old has had an unhappy time at Merseyside. He has been unable to win over either the coach or the fans since he came to Anfield in 2008 and his outburst seems to have sealed his fate as far as a Liverpool future is concerned.
A move to Russian might actually suit the Spaniard since his wife, Yulia Koroleva hails from Russia.
Benitez himself would be glad to revert his attention to on-filed matters - where he has a real fight on his hands to ensure Liverpool get that coveted fourth Champions League spot.
