Merson: Moyes can replace Ferguson
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to employ David Moyes to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when the latter retires.
Merson told The Daily Star that "it will be an absolute joke" if the Red Devils do not offer Moyes the hotseat.
Moyes has been impressing Premier League observers with his managerial style and ability to churn out results despite a lack of financial muscle. But what impressed Merson most is how consistent Moyes is.
"Moyes produces the goods week in, week out. What he has achieved at Everton is bordering on phenomenal," said Merson.
"If Everton hadn't picked up all those injuries they would be in with a real shout for a Champions League spot."
Merson also thinks Moyes will be able to command the respect of the dressing room.
"Moyes would have the immediate respect of the United players - and he was the manager who brought Wayne Rooney through, which is a massive bonus."
"And I can't remember a time when one of the Everton players has bad-mouthed Moyes, like Albert Riera has bad-mouthed Rafa Benitez. "
"And for me that speaks volumes about the kind of man he is."
