Friendly: Man City 0-2 Sporting Lisbon

A brace from striker Yannick Djalo was enough to help Sporting Lisbon ease past Manchester City 2-0 in New York on Friday night.

City boss Roberto Mancini opted to rest the vast majority of his first team, with only three starters Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and Adam Johnson likely to play for the Eastlands outfit in their Barclays Premier League season opener at Tottenham Hotspur on August 14.

Craig Bellamy, who has repeatedly been linked with a move away from City this summer, failed to convert two early chances before Djalo headed Sporting into the lead midway through the first half.

Djalo then doubled Sporting's lead six minutes before half-time when he rounded Hart to slot home.

Despite the less than impressive display, Mancini remains convinced his charges will be ready for the new campaign.

"We were missing maybe 15 or 16 players and were playing against a team who are further on with their preparations for the new season," the Italain said.

"They have played maybe eight games and have the Europa League next week so it is normal that we were slower.

"There are a number of players who are just training and maybe six or seven who are not yet back because they played at the World Cup.

"We are building our squad and still have 20 days to go."
