Taylor: Players will get their due

Blackpool's players have been assured they will receive the bonuses from last season's promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

The assurance has been given by Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor.

Blackpool are believed to owe some members of their squad more than £400,000 each for gaining promotion to the top flight thanks to their npower Championship play-off win over Cardiff in May.

Those owed the money are thought to have demanded the bonuses when they returned to training over three weeks ago.

Taylor says he has been assured the players will be paid by August 6, when the club will receive their first instalment of television money from the Premier League.

"We are aware of the situation at Blackpool," said Taylor.

"It has been reported to the Premier League and to the Football League.

"It looks like it will be paid in the first instalment of central funding from the Premier League when it comes through.

"I am confident that it will be paid. The club have told us that it will be.

"The players are not worried. They have been re-assured that it will be paid. I'm not sure if it's at the level that has been reported but it is a big big bonus that needs to be paid.

"It has been a nice little surprise for Blackpool to get themselves promoted but they have to live up to the agreement."
